Jason Newsted Metal EP Mixing and Mastering
As the Jason Newsted Metal EP mixing and mastering engineer, I was proud to record, mix, and master the debut EP from Newsted. Released on January 8, 2013, through Chophouse Records, Metal marked the return of former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted to aggressive thrash and speed metal. My goal was to deliver a powerful, polished sound while preserving the raw energy and intensity of each performance.
Recording, Mixing, and Mastering the Metal EP
The Jason Newsted Metal EP mixing and mastering project was completed at Creation Lab Studio. I recorded every song before mixing and mastering the EP in Nashville. Throughout the production process, I focused on clarity, punch, balance, and dynamic impact. At the same time, I worked to preserve the aggressive character and old-school spirit that fans expected from Jason Newsted’s return to heavy music.
Additionally, each mastering decision ensured the EP translated consistently across streaming platforms, digital downloads, headphones, car stereos, home audio systems, and professional studio monitors.
Chart Success of Jason Newsted’s Metal EP
Following its release, Metal debuted at #62 on the Billboard 200 and reached #1 on the iTunes Heavy Metal Charts. Furthermore, the EP sold approximately 6,200 copies during its first week, demonstrating strong support from fans worldwide. These accomplishments helped establish Metal as a successful return for Jason Newsted after his years with Metallica.
Lasting Impact
More than a decade after its release, Metal continues to attract listeners around the world. The songs receive ongoing streams and remain favorites among fans of thrash metal, speed metal, and classic heavy metal. As a result, the EP has earned a lasting place in Jason Newsted’s post-Metallica catalog.
Serving as the Jason Newsted Metal EP mixing and mastering engineer remains one of the highlights of my career. It was an honor to contribute to a project that continues to connect with heavy metal fans worldwide. Whether working with major-label artists or independent musicians, I focus on delivering professional recording, mixing, and mastering services that preserve the artist’s vision while providing the clarity, balance, punch, and consistency expected from today’s commercial music releases.
